TO mark World Limerick Day, Irish Ferries has launched Limericks for Kids, a new initiative to encourage creativity and storytelling, while celebrating the wonder of ferry travel with an amazing prize pot worth over €10,000.

In a bid to ditch the screens and get creative, Irish Ferries invites children to submit their very own limericks on the theme: A Ferry Good Holiday. By entering the competition, which will run until October 31, young would-be writers will have the chance to win big from Irish Ferries prize fund of over €10,000.

With monthly prizes of €400 Irish Ferries travel vouchers for each age category as well as Limerick books for runners-up, one Grand Prize Winner will be awarded a whopping €2,000 Irish Ferries voucher for their family to enjoy Irish Ferries travel, and a holiday to remember complete with the freedom of bringing the car, limitless luggage and even the family pet. Two Limericks for Kids overall runners-up will each take home an €800 Irish Ferries travel voucher.

From today, children from across the country are in with a chance to showcase their creativity and win fantastic prizes across two age categories: 9 years and under, and 10-15 years.

Speaking about Limericks for Kids, Irish Ferries Consumer Marketing & Sales Director Nora Costello said: “It’s clear from the naming of our ships such as the W.B. Yeats, Ulysses and James Joyce that Irish Ferries has always been a big supporter of Irish literature – and this campaign is a case-in-point.

“Limericks are one of the most playful ways to get children into writing; there’s no pressure, just imagination and a good sense of humour. We love the idea of children across Ireland creating their own little Limericks and seeing them celebrated in such a big way.

“This is a brilliant opportunity to spark creativity and give families something really positive to get involved in together. We’re proud to play a part in perhaps inspiring the next generation of young poets combined with the wonder of travel.”

The aim of this new exciting campaign is to encourage children aged 15 or under to get “ferry” creative, whether that’s at home, in school, or even at sea onboard Irish Ferries sailings. Entries, comprising a five-line poem on the theme of holidays or travel, can be submitted on the Irish Ferries new mobile app, their website, by email to limericks@irishferries.com or onboard any of Irish Ferries’ sailings until October 31st.

Perfect for families seeking inspiration, entertainment and a creative outlet for children, Limericks for Kids is set to become a highlight of the summer calendar. Irish Ferries is calling on the children of Ireland to get writing and let their imaginations set sail to Sea Travel Differently.

Irish Ferries confirmed that depending on the number of entries received, that it would consider compiling a book featuring the best entries.
