THIS July marks 230 years since the world lost Robert Burns, Scotland’s national poet and one of the most influential literary figures in history.

To mark the milestone, Stena Line is shining a light on one of its most popular day trip destinations – Ayr, the birthplace of Burns – and inviting day trippers from Belfast to step into the world that shaped his words.
From the streets where “honest men and bonnie lasses” walked in Tam o’Shanter to the twin bridges over the River Ayr that gave life to The Brigs of Ayr, and the rolling Ayrshire countryside of The Twa Dogs, Burns devotees and curious explorers can see what inspired ‘The Bard’ for themselves.

Further Burns heritage places to explore include the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum; the Burns Cottage where he was born on January 25, 1759; the Burns Monument and Gardens; and the Auld Kirk where the witches danced in Tam o’Shanter.
Departing from Belfast, passengers can enjoy a comfortable sailing onboard Stena Superfast followed by a one-hour coach transfer from Cairnryan to Ayr. With six hours of free time, there is plenty of opportunity to explore the places that helped make Burns’ work so influential.
